I strongly value the importance of celebrating and embracing diversity in classrooms. Every student evidently posses their own unique identity, and the variety of their beliefs, values, and histories should all be present and taught within the class environment.
Living in Canada currently, because of our history, there is now more than ever a need to recognize the culture of First Nations peoples and incorporate it into our everyday teaching practices.
As Claire Kreuger discussed, it is crucial that students learn that we are all treaty people, and that we are all affected by treaties. This is a topic that is newly being put into action in schools, and has had extremely positive effects on all students. Treaty Education is a great way for students to creating a true understanding of their Canadian identity.
